Neuropsychological Care for Medically Complex Conditions

Supporting children and families through medical journeys with compassionate, expert evaluation and guidance.

Helping Families Navigate Medical Journeys

When a child has a neurological condition, genetic disorder, or undergoes treatment that affects the brain, it can feel overwhelming. You may notice changes in learning, attention, memory, or behavior—or you may simply want reassurance about your child’s development. As a pediatric neuropsychologist, my role is to help families understand how medical conditions and treatments influence thinking, emotions, and daily functioning, and to provide clear guidance so children are supported at home, at school, and in the community.

Establishing a Strong Foundation

A baseline evaluation is often recommended after diagnosis or before starting treatment. It provides a foundation for tracking changes over time, helping families and medical teams understand whether differences are due to treatment, recovery, or other factors. Just as importantly, it highlights strengths that build resilience and confidence during the medical journey.

A Comprehensive, Child-Centered Approach

During an evaluation, I gather details about your child’s medical history, daily routine, emotional well-being, and school performance. Testing may include:

  • Attention and concentration

  • Memory and learning

  • Executive functioning (planning, organization, self-monitoring)

  • Language

  • Motor skills

  • Emotional adjustment

This provides a full picture of how your child is functioning and ensures recommendations are practical and individualized.

Evaluations can help answer key questions like:

  • How is my child’s condition or treatment affecting their learning and memory?

  • What changes might we see over time?

  • What supports will help my child succeed at school and in daily life?
